Hello Cal Volleyball Fans,

The preseason is over. Some in the Pac-10 may call it the pre-tend season only because most of us coaches consider the Pac-10 to be the real thing when it comes to getting serious about NCAA competitions. It is all important, but the pre-Pac-10 season is for sure to get ready for conference play. Our goal is to oil the machinery, define roles and get some momentum started for Pac-10 play. I believe we accomplished that very well this year.

Although injuries did not allow for some of our players to get the needed seasoning, we did get our team playing as a highly efficient unit and showed some outstanding volleyball to our home fans. Of our 11 matches this year, we have played seven at home and four on the road. A perfect record going into the conference sounds good, but four other teams also have perfect records and three others have only one loss each.

Wednesday we head out for perhaps the most physically grueling road trip of the year. We play Washington on Thursday night and Washington State on Friday. That's right, we go up against the defending National Champion Huskies and 24 hours later after a plane flight and a bus ride, play the Cougars. Every team has to be ready for back to back competitions with worthy opponents and add in the travel factor for good measure. Last year we came out of that trip 1 and 1 with a five-game loss to Washington. They are very good, but so are we. It should be a great match up. I'm not sure if they are web-streaming the match, but you can probably get on their web-site and follow the game some way. Here is the Huskies web-site information:

Wish us luck,
