BERKELEY - California senior attacker Brittany Aungier was named one of two MPSF Players of the Week today by the conference office for her career-high seven-point performance in the Golden Bears' 16-13 win at Connecticut on April 18. Aungier also tallied a school-record tying five assists in that game in Storrs, Conn. Cal leads the conference with six MPSF Player of the Week honors this season.
Aungier shares this week's award with Denver's Kelly O'Connell.
Cal has won three straight conference weekly awards, with junior goalkeeper Morgan Dyson earning the April 14 honor and sophomore midfielder Alyse Kennedy taking the April 7 award. Cal senior attacker Danni Zuralow earned MPSF weekly honors on Feb. 18, Feb. 25 and March 24.
The April 18 point total for Aungier, who also collected two goals against the Huskies, tied the Syracuse, N.Y., product for fourth place on Cal's all-time single-game scoring list. Former Cal star Colleen O'Mara holds the record of nine points and three Bears, including Kennedy, have each scored eight points in a single game.
Aungier's assist total against UConn tied the Cal record set by O'Mara, twice, and also tied by Kennedy, who collected five assists in a game this season.
Cal (9-6, 4-0 MPSF) next hosts Denver (10-5, 3-0 MPSF) at 1 p.m. on Saturday, April 26, on Senior Day, with the MPSF regular-season title and the No. 1 seed, and accompanying first-round bye, in the MPSF tournament on the line. That match is Cal's last before hosting the MPSF Championship tournament April 30-May 3 at Memorial Stadium in Berkeley.
