Cal Alumnus McEachern Competes for U.S. Team at World Championships

Sept. 5, 2007

MUNICH, Germany - California alumnae Megan Dirkmaat ('00) and Erin Cafaro ('06) propelled the U.S. women's four to the gold medal at the 2007 FISA World Rowing Championships on Sept. 1. With Dirkmaat the stroke and Cafaro in the two seat, the United States trailed the host country's boat during the first half of the race before making its move in the second 1,000 meters to clock a time of 6:37.94 and win by 2.42 seconds.

Germany (6:40.36) earned the silver and Australia (6:40.03) took home the bronze. The host team led the race with a time of 3:16.97 through 1,000 meters, while the United States was second in 3:18.14 and Australia was third in 3:18.84.

Rowing in the six seat, former Bear Kaylan Vander Schilden and her Canada team took sixth place in the women's eight in a time of 6:23.10 on Sept. 2.

Serbia's Iva Obradovic, another Cal alumna, took second in the C final of the women's single scull in a time of 7:45.07 on Aug. 31.

In the men's quadruple sculls, former Bear Deaglan McEachern helped the United States place third in the B final in a time of 5:53.95 on Sept. 2.
