July 3, 2007

SAN FRANCISCO, CALIF. - California pitching coach Dan Hubbs and hitting coach Jon Zuber are featured on KQED's Out of the Park: The Physics of Baseball, that will premiere tonight, Tuesday, July 3, at 7:30 p.m. on KQED 9 and KQED HD on Comcast 709. At Evans Diamond, the two Cal coaches visited with Dr. Linda Shore and David Barker, both from the Exploratorium in San Francisco, and discussed the mechanics of baseball.

The following is a description of the episode from KQED QUEST - "At UC Berkeley, a team of undergrads is experimenting with velocity, force, and aerodynamics. But you won't find them in a lab, they work on a baseball diamond, throwing fastballs, sliders and curveballs. QUEST discovers how the principles of physics can make the difference between a strike and a home run."

As well as interviews with Hubbs and Zuber, Out of the Park: The Physics of Baseball, also shows highlights from several Stanford-Cal baseball games, including footage of former Golden Bear hitting star and current major leaguer Xavier Nady of the Pittsburgh Pirates, and current Cal right-hander Tyson Ross.
