Records Set in Day One of MPSF Championships

SEATTLE, Wash. - Four members of the California track and field team set new school indoor records in the first day of the MPSF Championships Friday at the Dempsey Indoor Track Facility. In addition, the Golden Bears got four more individual NCAA Indoor provisional qualifiers and the men's distance medley relay also provisionally qualified and set a school indoor record. The Cal women currently stand in fifth place with 23.50 points, while the men are in 10th with 11 points.

Senior Thomas Mack once again broke the school indoor record in the 60-meter hurdles with a provisional-qualifying time of 7.89. The record he previously set was 7.94.

In the women's pole vault, freshman Allison Stokke set both the school indoor and freshman records with her mark of 13-1.00 (3.99m). Fellow teammate, junior Katie Morgan set the same mark, as both pole vaulters provisionally qualified for the indoor championships. Stokke and Morgan tied for third in the competition.

The men's distance medley relay, consisting of senior Andres Perezchica, juniors Mark Matusak and Jake Hanson and sophomore Michael Coe, provisionally qualified with a school-indoor time of 9:38.39. The relay placed fourth in the race. Freshman Kari Karlsson posted a time of 14:08.58 in the 5000 to provisionally qualify for the indoor national championships.

 

 

Freshman Cherrelle Garrett won her heats in both the 60-meter dash and the 200 meters. Her time of 24.43 in the 200 was a new personal best. On the men's side, junior Kellan Patterson took first in his 200-meter heat with a PR of 22.15. He also hit a new personal best in the 60-meter dash (6.88). Junior Steven Conrad took first in the 60 meters as part of the heptathlon. He also PRed in the shot put (41-10.50, 12.76m). Sophomore Kyle Mills-Bunje notched personal bests in the high jump, long jump and shot put also as part of the heptathlon.

Cal returns to the track tomorrow for the second day of the MPSF Indoor Championships. The day's action begins at 10 a.m.
